Means "is a remnant of the past that will be removed from the current
state soon but is there right now because someone might still be using
it".
For instance, the change from ! to / could've been handled so that first
! is deprecated and / is introduced and for some time, both work and
then, ! is removed and is free to be used for other purposes.
