Installing the OSMIC prototype
(For the following, it is helpful to know about such
matters as Perl, sockets and Emacs.)
THE ENVIRONMENT
Our Perl server is designed to service all incoming customers, from the same machine or across the network.
The mechanism we are using is the port connection. The server listens on port 10000 for any input. Any client connecting to port 10000 of that machine, and sending the proper messages, will get OSMIC service. It is not necessary to know a password, merely the machine address.
NOTE THAT DUE TO BUGS IN NETSCAPE, Microsoft Internet Explorer should probably be used, and a right-click followed by "save", followed by "save target as" and your choice of filename.
