Weekly Planning Meeting, 4/24

Highlights 4/24:

The big congratulations this week go to ravi and dean, and rick. Ravi
and dean were responsible for a modern miracle: the ent compiled! Ravi's
the one who actually did the work this week, but dean is responsible for
making the job so easy in his development of the ent. Ravi suspects we
could have an operational version of the whole backend in C++
soon...we'll see :-)

Rick's congratulations are for his management activities--activities
which invariably fail to get the credit they deserve in our local
culture. Rick's hired Rob Jellinghaus this week, a sharp fellow whom I
believe will make significant contributions on Montage. At the same time
that rick hired Rob, rick's first new programmer for Montage arrived.

Consequently a big welcome goes to Paul Baclaski, the newest member of
the Montage team. Paul, we all hope you have a lot of fun, shipping
products of great value.

Congratulations also go to hill and hugh. Hill (with collaboration from
ravi and hugh) simplified the intermodule dependencies; now you can
represent the dependencies on a simple 2-dimensional graph. Meanwhile
hugh renamed all the interfaces that had name conflicts with Macintosh
interfaces; this is one of those nasty jobs that we had to fix some day,
and now it's done (and in typical Xanadu style, hugh developed a tool so
that, if we ever have to resolve name conflicts with another operating
environment, we can do it pretty automatically :-)

Meetings: Marcs, everybody, build new high-resolution PERT chart. Hill,
roland, stubble bugs. Jacque, Joel, discuss ted's upcoming IBM TV
marathon. Bobp, marcs, joel, discuss resources for finishing
documentation, phase 2. Hugh, dean, roger fm event code. Hugh, michael,
finding changes in smalltalk. Markm, call randy smith for rick setup.
